Introduction To Online Advertising Concepts

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

Online advertising is a form of advertisement that utilizes the power of Internet and World Wide Web to attract customers. It is rather a collective term for different forms of ads done online. Some of its popular forms are search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), email marketing and banner ads.

Online advertising is getting more and more popular over the traditional advertising because of its benefits. Its biggest benefit is that information is made available to the viewing public in a very short amount of time and in a wide geographical area depending on the advertiser’s requirement.

One more benefit that is greatly appreciated by the marketing industry and the companies performing the advertisement is that the return on investment (ROI) can be well measured.

There are several means on how online advertising is being purchased;

1. Cost Per Mille (CPM) This is also known as “Cost Per Thousand (CPT)”. This model pertains to advertising purchased on the basis of impression. For example if a website sells banner for $5/CPM means it cost $5 to display the banner to 1000 views.

2. Cost Per Click (CPC) This term is used interchangeably with pay-per-click (PPC). In this model of advertising, advertisers pay their host only when their ad is clicked. Consider Google AdWords as an example. You have to choose your keywords and place a budget. When somebody searches on Google and matches your keyword then your advertisement will be displayed normally on the upper part of the search results page or on the right hand side depending on the budget you have place. When your advertisement is clicked then Google will bill you for that clicked.

3. Cost Per Action (CPA) This is an online advertising model where advertisers pay for each successful conversion only. That is for example, I am running advertisements for spa, the goal I have set for my clients is that they will pay only for every successful appointment made to their spa.

For advertisers, this is the best way to buy online advertising as the return on investment is easily checked.

Small Business Marketing on a Low Budget

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

The economy has forced both large, corporate marketing departments and small businesses to reevaluate and reduce their advertising budgets. The Association of National Advertisers reported in August 2009 that 74% of marketing departments were reducing their marketing budgets. At the same time, it is likely you are seeking new customers to replace those that may have left for economic reasons. We have ideas for you to continue marketing for little or no money!

There are many non-traditional marketing methods that are often free or very low-cost. They aren’t meant to replace your usual marketing strategy but to supplement and grow it. Because they are so inexpensive and low-risk, now, in these financially leaner times, is a great time to test them out.

Certainly one of the most discussed of the free marketing ideas is the use of social media and relationship building. By interacting on various social sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter and adding contacts and/or friends to your network, you get more free exposure for you and your business. You must be patient and persistent. This type of marketing strategy takes time to develop properly.

Treat your current customers like the gold that they are. Personally pick up the phone and call to thank them for their loyalty. Send them a card or note in the mail. Stop by where they work to say hello. Don’t peddle. Let them know you are seeking new business but do not make that the reason for the contact.

Build a referral network. What is this exactly? Essentially it is a network of individuals who refer business to one another. Let your accountant, your attorney, your doctor, your computer maintenance person or anyone else that you do business with know that you are looking for new business. Let them know you’d be glad to refer to them if they would do the same. Feel confident in those people you refer business to! But be sure to let your trusted contacts know you are seeking referrals.

Community involvement can help you build a strong business reputation as well. Obviously, community service is about doing good work, but it does offer additional benefits. You get to interact with other people and let them know what business you are in. You’ve already earned each others’ respect by meeting while volunteering. Two great deals in one!

We all ask each other “what do you do?” when we first meet. Do you have something better than an adequate answer? Developing your elevator speech, even if you have a traditional bricks and mortar store like a uniform shop, is crucial. When asked what you do, you can answer with “We are the largest supplier of medical uniforms in the tri-state area. Do you have family members in health care?” which can lead to additional conversation.

Search engine optimization is the process of ensuring that your website or blog ranks as high as possible in search engine results. There are simple steps like adding outgoing links, keywords and title changes, that you can make so that sites like Google and Yahoo can find you. Try to do some of this yourself or ask your webmaster for help. Check out other articles about SEO on my website.

A Basic Guide To Article Marketing - A Free Method For Attracting Business To Your Website

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

The key to writing articles first and foremost is to KEEP IT SIMPLE and WRITE ABOUT WHAT YOU KNOW.

OVERVIEW: So, the basic idea is you write as many articles as you want and then send and submit them to “Article Directories”. People who want content for their sites all over the world will go to these sites to find free articles for them to use. They are allowed to use them only on the proviso that they put in your name and information at the bottom.

You can write about Home Businesses, Personal Development, Cats, Cars or whatever …. I also write articles that are focused on Mums and Babies. Some of them have nothing to do with Internet Marketing, which is my business but one niche I target is Work at home Mums and Young families, so at the bottom of my article I write:

Tracey Dornelles is an online Career Mum and founder of www.NewLifeHomeBusiness.com.au a marketing company designed to help people create their own home business. If you want to know how you can spend more time with your family and doing the things you love go to www.NewLifeHomeBusiness.com.au

My background is in radio and even though I did have to write a bit in my job, I have never considered myself a writer and I don’t think I had even written an article before. What I’m saying is that you really don’t need any experience because people browsing the internet just want short snippets of good information they can read in a short space of time.

Write in lots of paragraphs - so people’s eyes don’t get tired and bored ….

* Sometimes I even write in point form!

* Give people free information - don’t just write a promo for your business, most of the article directories won’t accept it anyway and people just won’t read it.

Now remember ARticle Marketing is not something you are going t get direct responses from, so don’t expect to write 1 and then complain no one came to your website. Article Marketing is about building a brand and name for yourself. Think of some experts in your field - they maybe writing articles about computers or internet marketing and you found out about them because you like the advice they were giving. It could take you 10-20 articles to see any increased traffic, but if you stick at it writing 1 every day at the start and then 1 a week you will eventually build a brand.

Do a search for “Article Directories list” and lots of different websites you can submit your articles to will come up.

The biggest and most popular article directory seems to be www.ezinearticles.com but there’s hundreds more out there. And depending on what your article is about you could also send it to a niche website. So, say you wrote a website about computers, then you could contact the editor and offer them your article. I have done this with some baby specific articles I wrote.

Here’s a couple more article directories: www.goarticles.com www.articleland.co.uk www.articlealley.com

Now you know the basics - Get Writing! The only way you’re going to get any better at this is just to practice. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Internet Based Marketing

Monday, June 29th, 2009

In this article, I’ll discuss why Internet based marketing can give you a better return on your investment versus traditional, off-line marketing. Let’s start with an example.

Let’s say that you go to your local newspaper and tell them that you want to place an ad with them. While you’re there, you ask what their circulation is (their number of readers). They give you an estimate. You also ask them what their demographics are. They give you a general answer, because they don’t really know.

So you place the ad in the classified section and wait to see what happens. By the way, on your ad you put a code on your website URL so you know how many visitors you are getting from that ad, and second, with the phone number you also add a code, so you know where the calls are coming from.

You’re also going to have to be patient. Your ad will go out in the next edition. Eventually, you’ll start getting some calls and some additional traffic to your site. Compare this added interest with the cost for the advertisement. Say you got ten leads out of the ad, with the ad costing you about five dollars per visitor; this means your ad has cost you $50 in total.

Now suppose one of these leads converted into a sale. You may get some more calls of course over the next few weeks. Responses to print advertisements sometimes take a while.

Now, let’s take an Internet advertisement example by comparison. For this one, you start a pay per click campaign. With this method, you determine what keywords are relative to your service or product. You can get as targeted as you want and you can put a few keywords in a broad category, too, to see what keywords you might be missing out on when you try to snare everyone in your market.

Your ad goes live within fifteen minutes, using Google as an example. You only pay for people who click on your link and in this case you are paying $1.00 per click. Let?s say you convert at 2%. So you spend $100 to make two sales.

However in this example because of conversion tracking you can tell which keywords are converting to sales and cut out the keywords that do not convert making your ad campaign more cost efficient and effective.

In addition, because you’ve also used broader keywords, you can see how many people are finding you with this “one size fits most” method. You can also place ads on other websites with exact demographic information, which will be extremely targeted to your business.

The point is this; when it comes to online advertising, your ability to measure the performance of your advertising is far better.

By the way, pay per click is only one form of online marketing, there are many other effective marketing techniques you can use online, such as writing articles relative to your business, doing a press release, adverting in relevant online ezines and one of the most effective online marketing techniques is e-mail marketing, that is if it is done correctly.

Internet based marketing can significantly reduce your costs. It can also provide more information that lets you run more efficient and better marketing campaigns. In addition, your turnaround time is faster so that you get better information much sooner than you do with traditional venues.

Press releases as promotion tools

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Why do we need a press release? What purpose does it have? What are its benefits? Well, a simple answer to this is that you need people to know about your existence. If you need to be known as a person or as a business entity, then you have to distribute news about yourself. A press release does this for you.

Press releases are basically pieces of information in written or recorded media conveying something that has news value for example a new product launch, a new acquisition by a company.

Such is the impact of a press release that people who have not thought of working with you before might do it after having a look at your press release. It is the most effective way of getting brand recognition and opens new avenues for establishing long lasting and profitable business contacts.

Press releases on the web are bound to attract traffic to a particular website. People looking out for services will visit your website and give you added traffic which is also a good source of revenue nowadays. You will gain popularity and people will recognize you more by your press release and may also refer you to clients.

Another benefit of a press release is that it goes straight to the consumer. This is one of its most important benefits. They can help to publicize new services or products, to announce the opening and relocation of your business, to sponsor charitable events, to gain highly important contracts with other companies and innumerable other areas.

A press release should be better be written by a professional as it is critical in providing platform for a new product or a service by a company. The content should be to the point and should be directed towards the favourable audience so as to attract attention. Unnecessary information should be avoided and necessary information should be highlighted.

Another important part is to decide who to send the press release to. Your release may be highly creative and innovative, but if it is not distributed well enough, it may fail to serve its purpose. These things, if taken care of, will surely help you and your organization in becoming known to the people and hence in the growth of your business.

Business Strategy: EMail Marketing adds Additional Income

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

For every business, email marketing is a “must”. Two things have happened since we began using email marketing: our subscriber list grows every day and profits have jumped significantly. Every business needs email marketing because it will give your business an additional source of income. Email marketing is powerful, easy and fully legal and is a great addition to every business.

Email marketing is simply another way to advertise your products, services and business to gain additional income. The basic idea is to get people to give you their email address and any other information you need (like their first name) for you to send your information to. This information can be a report about your business or product, a coupon to come into the store to use (and therefore spend more money) or a new service or event that you offer. The persons information goes into a system called an autoresponder which can be preprogrammed to send out emails at specific times on subjects of interest to your potential clients.

If you follow some simple rules, email marketing can be legal. What you want to do is to have a person volunteer to release their contact information to you knowing full well that they will be receiving information from you via email on subjects you describe. As long as the trust and privilege remains unbroken, you can continue to send emails to that person for as long as you like on the subject matter you have agreed to.

An email marketing strategy should be utilized by each and every business. If you have services or products to sell to people more than once, make sure that they will be able to get into contact with you. You should still try to get their name and email address as well as permission to send them your product information. You will be able to send out special offers, company and product information, news, etc. as you agree to. You will then have the chance of getting more potential sales. Barbers, hair salons, realtors and product stores such as Target and Walmart, restaurants and many more are all good places in which you can place your business cards and fliers. Every small business is able to use email marketing successfully.

The benefits of your own email marketing campaign are huge:

When you obtain a customer list, communicate with your clients instantly

Extra cash from special offers you make without added marketing expense

You will receive more profits from recommended product sales

Clear excess inventory with “Special Sales”

Remember birthdays or other holidays with special sales

Ease of use for you and your clients/prospects

Make sales without prospects coming to your store

Make sales without prospects coming to your store

It is relatively easy to set up your own email marketing campaign. You must first get a reliable autoresponder. Second, write a number of emails to your prospects thanking them for opting into your email program and enumerate the benefits you have promised such as discounts, coupons, information reports, etc. Third, you will want to continue to use a variety of ways in which to get people to give you their email address so that you may put them into their autoresponder. Fourth, on your email list you will want to continue to offer product and services of your business. Your email list will become another set of customers for you. As your subscriber list grows, so your sales will grow.

5 Steps To Creating A Winning Adwords Strategy

Friday, March 27th, 2009

If you think that using Google Adwords ads to promote your product or service will be a difficult undertaking, think again - it doesn’t have to be a stressful experience at all. As a matter of fact, creating an ad that works with this strategy is quite easy, and Adwords ads can find success where more conventional marketing tactics (direct mail, print, other online ads, et cetera) have failed.

Online marketing gurus like Perry Marshall have already laid the groundwork for meeting your marketing goals with Google Adwords, and achieving this success is much easier than you probably think. As a matter of fact, you can skip all the books and seminars you thought you’d have to spend days or even weeks reading and attending, and simply follow the step by step method described below.

These five steps will give you the knowledge you need in order to create a successful Adwords campaign:

1. Take advantage of keyword tools available online. Perry Marshall suggests that Adword users not look a gift horse in the mouth with regard to the myriad tools and applications available online to help marketers with keyword decisions. Keyword Universe from Wordtracker is one great tool that can help you find effective keywords and related words.

2. Know what your competition is doing at all times. In the marketing world, keeping up with the Joneses is more then important - it’s essential to success. That’s why you would be remiss not to take advantage of the online resources that can let you in on which keywords your peers in your market are bidding on, and how much they’re willing to spend in order to secure them. Www.spyfu.com is one great site to visit for marketers seeking this sort of information.

3. Write an effective ad. Since you’re working with just two key lines of text in a Google Adwords ad, the way in which you employ keywords and important phrases couldn’t be more crucial. One helpful hint is that you should list the benefits of your product or service before broaching the topic of key features.

4. Don’t settle for the second page. Whenever you can, you should try to lower your budget price before cutting down on your bid amount, since lowering your bids will often result in your ad being pushed back to a less desirable spot on the second page of sponsored search results.

5. Run more than one ad. In the opinion of Adwords pioneer Perry Marshall, split testing is a crucial way to ensure that your ad campaign is as successful as possible. Far better than just running a single ad and taking a wild guess as to whether or not it is performing as well as it could be is to run another similar ad concurrently with your first. The results from a similar but not identical ad simultaneously run with your first will give you more useful information about what really works.

Getting started with Google Adwords is a simple process, but you need to begin with the right approach to get results immediately. Start things off with these five steps so you can start getting clicks and driving traffic to your blog, website or sales page with ease.
